i'm good.
i love my work.
the time i spend with m3.
i love going home.
i love reaching out.
i love all the little details in life.
i'm looking forward to this weekend - going to spend time with 3 beautiful girls.
but today is tough. my heart skips an extra beat when i work with j. (a 5 year old boy with autism). he is having an emotional hard time the past few weeks. he tells met the whole time:
'i'm broken. i want to be mended, i'm broken. i broke my mommy. i want my mommy.'
i've tried everything. at the moment i'm at my last resort just comforting him, holding him on my lap, rubbing his arm, back and head while on my lap... it helps, but just for a moment.
my heart breaks everytime he gets upset. the pleading, the sound of desperation in his voice when he say the above, the total sadness in his voice... this all breaks my heart.
why am i writing about him today?
it's a feeling of not knowing what to do... of wanting to take him home, to comfort him and to surround him with love... with cuddles... making stories where we go to space... or going on a journey on a train.
i want to get him a pair of socks for every day. clean clothes and baths full of bubbles.
i want to hear his giggles again...xx

I can't even begin to imagine the heartache you must feel...It made me cry and long to take care of him too just reading about it. The work you do sounds difficult - what a special soul you have to be doing it. I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your friends with many laughs and good memories to take away.
oh, wow. that story is heartbreaking. i love that he has you there in his days, holding him, patting his arm, comforting him, offering him grace to just be.
Hi linni,
Blogger won't let me sign in, but this is Sarah ;) Your story reminds me of when I worked with autistic kids several years ago. I totally remember that feeling that there's nothing I could say or do. Thanks for being with him, and others like him...they need it so badly.
Oh Linni, (hugs!!!)I too have had such experiences working with autistic children...and know the feeling of doing all you can...and yet, wanting to do more. That awful feeling of helplessness?
Your love and care has to be making a difference for him. How could it not? :)
Love you...
xoxo
I'm so sorry, my dear sweet linni. I've only had experience working with one autistic person, and he was high functioning and 23 years old. He hated his life and constantly talked of wanting to die. It's gut wrenching.
The work you do is so important, but it's okay to say that it's overwhelming sometimes. Because it is...
xoxo
I'm sure your presence in his life is such a comfort to him. He knows he is loved and taken care of by you. Just to hold him the way you do speaks volumes of the love being shared between the two of you.
Your heartache is a reflection of your beautiful and caring spirit.
xo
oh, linni. you have such a tender, beautiful, & giving heart. i'm thankful this little one has your love. love is so healing.
have a beautiful day!!
